In flooring and fixtures, the colors should be coordinated or should provide a delightful contrast to the color of your walls to create a variety in visuals. However, also remember to stick to one or two shades only to avoid creating confusion in a single small space. The tiles on the floor should be darker than the walls. This is to emphasize the solid floor providing a contrast to the walls making it a focus. Also, it would help conceal dirt and grime and will not easily discolor through continuous use through time. Choosing bathroom colors for your vanities and cabinets is also carefully selected. In color schemes, dark colors will make a room darker. So when painting a strong and solid dark color, provide lots of light to make it brighter. Use small spotlights for a focal point effect enhancing an elegantly displayed décor or area. For counters, use light colors to create a clean and polished look. Accessories also play up the overall theme of the bathroom. Compliment dark colors of your bathroom with light accessories and vice-versa. Accentuate accessories with colors according to your mood and theme. This is a quick and interesting way to alter and cheer-up your overall bathroom appearance and play for bathroom colors.
Tile Patterns Not only color combinations but combinations of tiling patterns can be used. Such as diamond pattern followed by a border and then a simple rectangular arrangement. Floors can be equally creative with diamond, square, rectangular and brick work patterns. If using a rectangular tile, aligning the longer tile dimension with smallest room dimension tends to expand the perception of that room dimension. The reverse is equally true, and in this manner a bathroom can be made appear wider or narrower. How much pattern effect could be used to achieve an optimal result would depend to a large extent on the size of the bathroom. Tile Material Conventionally, ceramic and marble tiles have been used in bathrooms. Both materials are relatively cheap, widely available and easy to work with in the sense that cutting tools are readily obtainable. Tile material trend is fast changing in favor of porcelain as opposed to the more common marble and ceramic tile. With the projected sales of porcelain tiles to double within the next ten years. These tiles are nonporous, extremely hard, and show little signs of wear even in high traffic areas. So any bathrooms fitted with these tiles would maintain its as new look over many years.
Tile Format In either case the format and color of tiles can be used to great advantage with a little imagination. A bathroom revamp is not something normally done on a frequent basis so it is advisable to select size and color in line with current and projected trends to keep the bathroom as modern as possible, for as long as possible. Over the years the trend in tile format has been to increase both dimensions following the rectangular pattern. By comparison to 20 or so years ago when the norm was square 10 cms * 10 cms (although this format is still available). It is now common to encounter tiles in the 30 cms * 40 cms range and not unusual to find tiles of 30 cms * 60 cms and larger. So, potentially a good choice would be the larger format. Be aware that the small tile offers the advantage of being able to follow the contours of the walls much more so than the larger formats.

If you are not interested in theme based bathroom decoration then you can think of the bathroom color, lighting and ventilation and changing of few bathroom accessories, But all these things should be done properly. Few of the decorating points are as follows: Paint: Think of the paint of the bathroom. You can use both washable paint and wall paper. Use the washable paint where water contact is more and use the wall paper where the water contact is less. If you are using the wall paper on the certain area of the wall which often comes into the water contact then the wall paper may be separated from the wall. Flooring: You bathroom floor should be easy to clean, water resistant and safe to use. In many homes the bathroom is the one area that is most neglected in the entire room. It is a small room which is mostly painted in white or a sickly green. However nowadays many homeowners started paying more attention to their own bathrooms and giving it that importance that it deserves. There are some interesting trends in modern bathrooms regarding color that are touching on bolder and brighter shades. You can go with burgundy or a strong and cheerful yellow or even an energizing teal. Many people also like the seaside designs with the refreshing ocean blues and greens. You can go here with bright turquoise and some rich violet shades that can be in the wall tiles or wall color. While I personally dont like brown, there is a strong trend in employing browns and blues on walls. For example you could use the wall painted in brown and then add blues as accents or patterned tiles on the walls, floors and even shower stalls. Also brown cabinets seem to be quite trendy today. Many people still prefer the neutral colors, and that is also OK as neutral is always in fashion. All you need is add a couple of highlighting accents, a few shades of brown or gray, or different shades of the very same color. The classic white which used to be quite strong is nowadays replaced with a soft and muted off-white strongly reminiscent of whipped cream. There are many shades of white that you can use and it gives the bathroom a nice effect when you alternate between them.
