Synthetic and engineered finishes are - as the name implies - specifically engineered to last for only a set amount of time before they fail and require replacement. Natural materials, while certainly not immune to premature damage - this usually occurs if unskilled or improper installation procedures are used - tend to last much longer, and, more importantly, they age gracefully. An engineered material will look ugly after wearing out, contrarily, a natural material will acquire a warm patina over the decades - why else, for example, is historic architecture so cherished? The natural materials used in such architecture - stone, brick, ceramics, hardwoods - age beautifully over time and looks better the older they get. dRemodeling thus recommends that the homeowner consider using various stones for bathroom surfaces - granite, marble, sandstone, and similar stones are extremely durable and will offer decades of reliable service if properly installed and maintained. High quality ceramic tile is also suitable.
People are very choosy when it comes to their bathroom decor. This is their personal space and hence they would want it to be the most beautiful place. But then once cannot ignore the functionalities that the bathroom has to provide too. There needs to be a healthy balance between the two. Bathroom is the place where you work a lot on your body hygiene and personal grooming. You will need more space in your bathroom for all these things along with other accessories and utilities combined with good aesthetics. In this section of the article we have not included the items and fixtures like sink, bathtubs, washbasins, accessories, shower etc. We have instead focused on the interior design and decor for the moment.
Tile Format In either case the format and color of tiles can be used to great advantage with a little imagination. A bathroom revamp is not something normally done on a frequent basis so it is advisable to select size and color in line with current and projected trends to keep the bathroom as modern as possible, for as long as possible. Over the years the trend in tile format has been to increase both dimensions following the rectangular pattern. By comparison to 20 or so years ago when the norm was square 10 cms * 10 cms (although this format is still available). It is now common to encounter tiles in the 30 cms * 40 cms range and not unusual to find tiles of 30 cms * 60 cms and larger. So, potentially a good choice would be the larger format. Be aware that the small tile offers the advantage of being able to follow the contours of the walls much more so than the larger formats.
Pastel shades in small rooms add colour without being overpowering. Peaches and pale pinks create a beautiful backdrop, easily flattering most skin tones. Theyre great for a guest bathroom. Placing a mirror on top leaves guests glowing and uplifted. To ground a room select a slightly darker colour for the floor. To create spacious perceptions have the ceiling a lighter shade than the walls. You are best to choose between 3 - 6 colours to work with in one room. This doesnt mean go crazy. Pick one strong vibrant color and use different shades of the same colour. Have one lighter or neutral color (best for the walls), one medium shade from the same family (great for shower curtains and larger fittings) and then use an accent colour on statement pieces (towels, tumblers, soap dishes) to spice things up a bit. The colors you choose will impact on how you want the room to feel. Redecorating or repainting your bathroom can be a daunting task. However as long as you know what you want out of your bathroom and how you want it to feel you can make the perfect choice by adding a personal touch to your design.
Your bathroom is the smallest room in your home, and as such, is often treated like an afterthought. Most people dont think a lot about the colors that their bathroom is painted. Yet bathroom paint colors can have more of an impact on your life than you think. Paint colors for bathrooms are as important as the paint colors you choose for the rest of your home. There is such a plethora of bathroom color ideas, that you can just let the colors you choose be influenced by your personal style and the mood youre trying to set. Dont forget to consider the effect of color on mood. You might have already done this for the rest of your home. You might have chosen to make your bedroom a soothing blue, to calm you and help you rest. Your front room may be a more active color, like red or orange, to help you feel energized.
Most people dont think to do this with their bathroom. But you spend more time in your bathroom than you think you do. Cool colors like blue or green are soothing and calming. So if you want your bathroom to be a sanctuary, use these colors as a starting point for bathroom color ideas. Using lighter cool colors will also brighten your bathroom, and make a small bathroom feel bigger than it actually is. On the other hand, if you want to feel more energized and active, choose warm colors like orange or red for your bathroom. These colors can make your bathroom feel cozier and more inviting. But be careful - they are bold colors, and may overcome everything else in the bathroom. It might be better to use them for an accent wall, or for a splash of color to stand out and tie the rest of your room together.
